In the book, De Crenne highlights the two types of love: lascivious love; illicit vain and full of suffering; and matrimonial love noble; chaste and worthwhile. This story therefore is an expression of how the power of lascivious loves over matrimonial, how vain it can be and why people should pursue more worth while ventures. Crenne views marriage as a very sacred and holy institution held in deep reverence by those in it (8). Chastity is the rock under which perfect marriages are built on. A married person has to be both chaste in heart as well as in character: the things that a married person does must reflect a chaste spirit from within. As such a married person especially a woman has to avoid all the trappings of the search for pleasure. With regard to pleasure, Crenne says that it can be found in abundance within marriage and as such, a person has no reason to go searching for it outside the marriage (8). Furthermore a ma rried person holds a very important position in the society and as such has to uphold dignity so as to retain that position (9). Married women are subject to public scrutiny by society and are much more liable to blame and condemnation should they commit any form of misdemeanor such as having affairs with other men. Therefore Crenne sees women as the carriers of dignity not only in marriage but also in the society (9). It is like a snare and once it captures its victims it makes them totally helpless and only depend on it for survival (16). Such love can be arrested before it grows beyond control by reducing the proximity between the two lovers (10, 73). This means that physical distance and the frequency of contact are what motivate this love to grow stronger and stronger. Moreover, the secrecy in which it is ducted only adds more fuel to the fire. Crenne continues to explain the there are two types of love: lascivious (adulterous affair) love and chaste (matrimonial) love (10). Lascivious love is illicit, full of vain and hope as the married person always harbors unending fantasies of being with their secret lover. Such fantasies only lead to physical, psychological and even spiritual turmoil (201). What is more surprising is the fact that the individual who finds illicit affection to a secret lover cannot hide that love for long as the love is too strong that it causes a person to change their general mannerism. The behavior change betrays one’s inner feeling. Married people who find themselves in illicit affairs may want to fight the urge and keep it secret until the day they die, but slowly it starts to consume them such that they drop their guard and start defending such an adulterous affair. The pillars that kept a person chaste soon start to carve in under pressure and as such unreason slowly sets in. This is the genesis of breaking up of a marriage that initially seemed immune to such. Helisenne’s husband lived for the love of his wife, going to such great lengths as to threaten to kill her secret lover, as well as lock her up in effort to separate her from illicit lover. After realizing that Helisenne had been locked up Guenelic, her secret lover, out of his love for her sets out to search for her, the result of which is the journeys through out the world in search of there Helisenne had been locked up by her husband. Helisenne the former chaste, noble and faithful wife, upon discovering the attraction of secret love spends her entire life searching for her secret love. Crenne adds that even some of th e most important personalities such as Socrates were also victims of this domineering phenomenon (93, 94). The effort that is put to seek love is so great that one would expect a better life after such great love is found. However the opposite is true. Such love is just vain. It leads to nothing. After all the suffering and torment a person goes through such love does not lead to freedom. People who commit their lives in pursuit of this kind of life and love are exposing themselves to suffering anguish and possibly death; death being the ultimate end of the pursuit of such desires (201-214). Because of the vanity of such love Crenne advices ladies of nobility to look for something much more valuable to do other than search for love that would lead them nowhere thus; â€Å" exhorting all fair ladies to love sparingly well, chastely and avoid all manner of vain and unchaste love† (7). This is completely normal and gives you a starting point from which you can later improve. #3: Review Your Mistakes It's one thing to take an SAT Math test, but you also need to look over your results and identify any patterns in your correct and incorrect answers. Do you tend to get the last few questions wrong on each Math section? Do function questions just seem to throw you for a loop? First, figure out what went wrong. Then, see how you can pick up some easy points and diligently target those areas in your prep. (Remember that each Math question, no matter its difficulty, is worth the same number of points!) #4: Target Your Biggest Weaknesses Once you've pinpointed patterns in the errors you make, it's time to dig deeper and examine your biggest weaknesses. Your ultimate goal will be to tailor your studying so that you can focus on improving the areas you struggle with the most. Since your overall objective is to answer as many questions as accurately as possible, you'll want to dedicate the majority of your study time to improving your weaknesses, rather than to reviewing material you already know well. Refreshing your known material again and again might make you feel productive and confident, but it doesn't do a whole lot to improve your score. Your best bet is to focus on your problem areas by practicing and expanding your knowledge base. #5: Set a Study Schedule Don’t be tempted to cram right before the test. You might have a busy schedule and feel as if your only option is to cram for the SAT, but improvement really happens over time. We generally advise giving yourself at least three to six months to study for the SAT. If you don't have a lot of time left before test day, however, don't give up! No matter how much time you've got for studying, it is possible to come up with a balanced SAT study plan. First, calculate the amount of time you have before your test date. (For example, say you've got a month before your test.) Next, assign yourself at least three full practice tests (in addition to your normal study materials) and spread them out over the course of your study schedule. If you only have a week or so before test day, this probably won’t be possible. In this case, try to fit in at least one or two practice tests wherever you can. Nothing else replicates the SAT experience like a full practice test does, so don't underestimate its importance in your prep! #6: Not Seeing Any Improvement? Get Additional Prep Help Some students prefer to do all of their SAT studying by themselves, but others work better with a little guidance. Paralleling Fullers quotation, Sinclair Lewis' Babbit is a satirical portrayal of a man in search of himself enveloped by a society of hypocrisy . George F. Babbit, a middle class man, struggles to find social mobility and beatitude. Babbit overlooks the essential items of life and concentrates his attention towards material goals and impressing the upper class. Due to the loss of his best friend, Babbit realizes his life has no meaning and rebels against society's conformity destroying his reputation. Lacking the courage to be independent, Babbit's dream of true ecstasy crumbles when he succumbs to hypocritical lifestyle realizing that he needs conformity. Strongly influenced by a sanctimonious society, Babbit, a man in search for himself, realizes that he needs conformity to live. Babbit dreams of improving his status in the community, not realizing that hypocrisy is influencing every decision or action he makes. Babbit concentrates his time and energies towards activities and events that impress the upper class. His life revolves around material items and goals. Mr. and Mrs. Babbit host a dinner party, only inviting the utmost respectable couples. They plan a "highbrow affair†¦with evening clothes required" in hopes of impressing their prosperous guests. The evening is filled with meaningless conversation and the men tell crude and unsophisticated jokes. Everyone seems to be having a wonderful time even though there is no real meaning in the evening. Shortly afterwards Babbits "name and face" become noticed throughout the city. In another attempt to impress the upper class, Babbit delivers a stirring speech and suddenly finds that he has become one of the most "popular and well-known figures" at the convention. Babbit's dream of improving his position is coming true, although Babbit is oblivious to society's hypocrisy. From a solid citizen, Babbit becomes an important citizen and volunteers his services as an orator for a political campaign.

Purpose of Investigation The purpose of this investigation is to find out the general trends of the Olympic gold medal height each time the event is held. It also could be used to predict the next gold medal height in the upcoming Olympic events. We could know as well what functions can be used to plot the graphs. People could also analyze the pattern of rise or decrease in height of the winning height in the Olympic game. This investigation also allows future participants to find out information about previous gold medal heights and can make them easier to set targets for their performance in the Olympic Games. a. b.The function I used for constructing this graph is Gaussian. Because from the list of functions in the graph-constructing program, the Gaussian function is the most accurate shape when plotted according to the data given which is the statistics of height of gold medalist for men’s high jump in the Olympic. The technology I used to plot all the graphs is Logger Pro 3. 50. c. The difference is not significant after I adjust it. It can be seen from the graph itself that the shape of it is also similar. The limitation is that it is plotted on a lower values compared to the original and so it couldn’t reach the 1980 mark like the original graph. . With the technology I used, the function I find to have a similar shape is the cubic function which is the red line. There are some period that the cubic function has a higher value. Also there are some points where the two graphs meet. But in the end the cubic is lower than the original and couldn’t reach the 1980 mark. e. According to the original graph, if in the year 1940 and 1944, the estimated height will be 198. 2 and 199. 6 respectively. f. Estimated winning heights in 2984 and 2016 are 235 and 241 respectively. From the data, the winning height generally tends to rise from year to year the Olympic is held.The estimated winning heights are obtained from the graph until the year of 2016. g. My model fits well with the additional data. However, there are some points that the graph doesn’t reach according to the additional data given. h. The overall trend from 1896 up to 2008 is that the gold medal height rises from year to year, although there are some years that the gold medal height fall compared to the previous Olympic event which are in the years 1896 to 1904, 1936 to 1948, 1968 to 1972, 1988 to 1992, and 1996 to 2000. i.
